Survey for network operators: PeeringDB's "never via route servers" option (3 min)
by Pedro Ferreira 30 Oct '26

30 Oct '26

Dear Routing Working Group members, We are researchers at UFMG and FURG (Brazil) studying how networks use the "never via route servers" option in PeeringDB and how IXP route servers apply it. If you operate a network, we would appreciate 3 minutes of your time, whether or not your network has the option enabled: https://forms.gle/etf7ezkd5vWgPKoA6 Participation is voluntary and anonymous. We collect no personal data, identifying your network is optional, and results will only be reported in aggregate. For questions or comments, contact us at: Pedro Ferreira pedroferreira(a)dcc.ufmg.br mailto:pedroferreira@dcc.ufmg.br , Italo Cunha cunha(a)dcc.ufmg.br mailto:cunha@dcc.ufmg.br , Pedro Marcos pbmarcos(a)furg.br mailto:pbmarcos@furg.br Thank you, Pedro Ferreira (M.Sc. student, UFMG), advised by Prof. Italo Cunha (UFMG) and Prof. Pedro Marcos (FURG)

BGPSec Router Key Certificates supported in the RPKI API
by Tim Bruijnzeels 29 Oct '26

29 Oct '26

Dear colleagues, In response to previous requests from community members, the RIPE NCC has implemented support for creating and managing BGPsec Router Key Certificates (RFC 8209) through the RPKI API. Documentation on how to use the API is available at: https://github.com/RIPE-NCC/rpki-core/blob/main/Documentation/BGPSec%20API.… In a nutshell, BGPsec allows holders of AS numbers to authorise a key for their router which can then be used to sign BGP updates. This allows BGPsec-aware routers to validate that the BGP path is unaltered (on BGPsec-enabled sessions). Please note that BGPsec is complementary to ROAs/ROV and ASPA. BGPsec focuses specifically on preventing spoofing of the path. It does not check the route origins, as ROAs/ROV do, or detect route leaks, as ASPA does. While BGPsec support in (hardware) routers is currently lagging, and there are challenges regarding incremental deployment and performance, we hope that enabling the support for BGPsec Router Key Certificates through RPKI API will help drive its development forward. Kind regards, Tim Bruijnzeels Principal Engineer RPKI RIPE NCC

Survey on ASPA Validation and Enforcement in Operational Networks
by Kastanakis Savvas 05 Oct '26

05 Oct '26

Dear colleagues, We are conducting a short survey (https://forms.gle/rjmTKnjMAXe8sVmH8) on ASPA validation and enforcement as part of an ongoing measurement study at the University of Twente and the University of Liège. The survey focuses on the operational use of ASPA information: whether networks consume ASPA data to validate BGP AS paths and whether those validation results are enforced through routing policy, for example by rejecting or de-preferencing ASPA-invalid routes. It is not concerned with the publication of ASPA objects themselves. The survey takes approximately 3–5 minutes, and responses will be reported only in aggregate or anonymized form. We would greatly appreciate your input, including from networks where ASPA deployment is partial, experimental, or still under evaluation. Best regards, Savvas Kastanakis
