RIPE NCC General Meeting October 2009 - Registration Open

Dear RIPE NCC member, The RIPE NCC Executive Board is pleased to invite you to the RIPE NCC Autumn General Meeting (GM) 2009. The GM will be held on Wednesday, 7 October 2009 from 16:00-19:00. It will be held adjacent to the RIPE 59 Meeting, which takes place from 5-9 October 2009 at the Corinthia Hotel in Lisbon, Portugal. The GM will consist of two parts: - The RIPE NCC Services Working Group will begin at 16:00 and will include the presentation of the Report from the RIPE NCC. This part of the GM is open to everyone. - The second part of the GM follows immediately after and is only open to RIPE NCC members who have registered for the GM. This part of the meeting is the forum where RIPE NCC members can discuss the operations and activities of the RIPE NCC and exercise their voting rights. More information about the GM is available at: https://www.ripe.net/membership/gm/gm-october2009/ Registration --------------- You must register for the GM separately from the RIPE 59 Meeting. As a member, you can attend both the RIPE NCC Services Working Group session and the members-only section of the GM without being registered for the RIPE 59 Meeting. This takes place on Wednesday, 7 October 2009 from 16:00-17:30, immediately before the members-only section of the GM. The Report from the RIPE NCC presentation will not be repeated in the members-only section of the GM. Voting and Resolutions ------------------------------ Candidate members are welcome to attend the GM but are not permitted to vote according to article 16.7 of the RIPE NCC Articles of Association. Full members who are not able to attend the GM but still want to vote can do so by means of proxy voting as per article 16. Please also note that the GM can only pass resolutions that have been submitted and published according to article 15 of the RIPE NCC Articles of Association. The event will be held in Beirut, Lebanon from 25-29 October 2009 and is hosted by IDM and OGERO. [Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, This is a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number council (NC). The term of Dave Wilson, who was elected to the NRO NC in January 2007, ends on 31 December 2009. The election to the NRO NC seat will take place during a Plenary session at the RIPE 59 Meeting to be held in Lisbon, Portugal from 5-9 October 2009. All members of the Internet community who are present at the Plenary session may vote in the election. The deadline for nominations is 9 September 2009. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. Please send your nominations to <nominations(a)ripe.net> by 23:00 UTC on 9 September 2009. All confirmed nominations will be listed on the RIPE NCC website by 11 September 2009. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. Registration ------------ This meeting is free to attend, although we ask that you register. Presentations will be given in English or Russian, and simultaneous translation between both languages will provided. Voting Options at General Meetings

[Apologies for duplicate emails] Dear Colleagues, The RIPE NCC Executive Board has been evaluating various options regarding the proposal to change the voting procedure currently used to elect the Executive Board during General Meetings. Several of these options were presented at the General Meeting in May 2009. Please refer to this presentation for more details: http://www.ripe.net/membership/gm/gm-may2009/presentations/ After discussion during this meeting, there was no clear consensus on how to proceed. The minutes of the General Meeting are available at: http://www.ripe.net/membership/gm/gm-may2009/minutes.html The Executive Board concluded that in order to widen participation in elections, it will propose to allow voting by postal ballot for Executive Board elections. This addition to the voting process will not require a major effort or a major investment from the RIPE NCC. The Executive Board will monitor whether this enhancement leads to increased participation and based on these outcomes will decide on further steps. Membership discussion of the proposed changes to voting options for General Meetings can take place at <members-discuss(a)ripe.net>.
