Dear Colleagues, We'd like to share some of the discussions from JANOG 34 held in Takamatsu-city, from 17-18 July with over 500 participants. While our discussions are in Japanese, we believe there are issues in common with operators outside Japan. An english version of the Summary Report and a report on anti-spam measures session is be made available this time, below. RIPE Academic Cooperation Initiative (RACI) - Applications Open

Dear colleagues, This is a reminder that we are still accepting applications from academics to attend the RIPE 69 Meeting in London from 3-7 November as part of the RIPE Academic Cooperation Initiative (RACI): http://www.ripe.net/ripe/raci The package for successful applicants includes the cost of RIPE Meeting tickets, accommodation, travel to and from London, lunch every day of the meeting and tickets to social events. Students and researchers from within the RIPE NCC service region are encouraged to apply. The closing date for applications is Friday, 12 September 2014. RIPE NCC Re-Affirms Commitment to Operate K Root Name Server

Dear colleagues, The RIPE NCC has been providing DNS root name service via k.root-servers.net since 1997. As the global Internet community considers changes to the NTIA oversight of key DNS functions, the RIPE NCC wishes to assure the Internet community that our commitment to providing this service and to coordinating appropriately with ICANN and the other root server operators will not be affected by the outcome of these discussions. The RIPE NCC is a not-for-profit membership association under Dutch law. It is governed by its General Meeting and Executive Board, and is guided by the RIPE community. Root name servers are a crucial part of the Internet DNS infrastructure and the RIPE NCC’s role in this area is supported by the membership for the benefit of the global Internet community. In an open letter to ICANN in 2009, the RIPE NCC affirmed our mutual commitment to coordination of DNS root name service operations, acknowledging that a single, unique DNS root is paramount to the stable operations of the Internet and to ensuring global reachability: https://ripe.net/s/kr2h We remain committed to the principles expressed in this letter, and will continue working to operationalise them, independent of changes to the IANA stewardship. Launch of updated ASO website

Dear Colleagues, For the past few weeks, the NRO Secretariat has been working to update the Address Supporting Organization (ASO) website and is now ready to go live with the updated site. The updated website incorporates feedback provided during the last ICANN ASO organisational review, as well as from the NRO Number Council members and RIR staff. We plan to make the switchover to the updated site on Thursday, 14 August between 13:00-15:00 UTC, during which time the ASO website will be unavailable. NRO NC Call for Nominations: RIPE NCC Service Region

Dear colleagues, There is a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The NRO NC also performs the role of the ICANN Address Supporting Organization (ASO) Address Council (AC). The term of Wilfried Woeber, who was appointed to the NRO NC by the RIPE NCC Executive Board in November 2011, ends on 31 December 2014. The RIPE NCC Executive Board will select one representative from the nominees to serve a three-year term on the NRO NC beginning 1 January 2015. The decision of the Executive Board will be announced at the RIPE 69 Meeting, which will be held in London from 3-7 November 2014. The deadline for nominations is 8 October 2014. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. There is no limit on the amount of terms someone can serve on the NRO NC. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. Other individuals may express support for nominated individuals that will be published on the RIPE NCC website. NANOG Community- Thanks for helping to make NANOG 61 in Bellevue such a smashing success as the most attended meeting ever, on the 20th anniversary of the first meeting! NANOG will hold its 62nd meeting in Baltimore, MD on October 6-8, 2014, hosted by EdgeConneX. The NANOG Program Committee is now seeking proposals for presentations, panels, tutorials, tracks sessions, and keynote materials for the NANOG 62 program. We invite presentations highlighting issues relating to technology already deployed or soon-to-be deployed in the Internet, . Vendors are encouraged to work with operators to present real-world deployment experiences with the vendor's products and interoperability. Server Hosting RIPE Meeting Websites and Archives is Back Online

Dear colleagues, The server hosting the RIPE Meeting websites and archives is back online, following our investigation into the security incident from last week. In this process we identified and removed an old script that was vulnerable to compromise. We also conducted an audit of all the software on the server to make sure it is patched and up-to-date. We would like to thank members of our community, notably Jaap Akkerhuis, for bringing this to our attention. We apologise again for any inconvenience caused.
