Lightning Talks at RIPE 67

Dear Colleagues, As there are just days left to meet in Athens at RIPE 67, please be reminded that RIPE PC is still accepting proposals for Lightning Talk slots, as part of the Plenary program. Lightning talks are short (5-10 minutes) presentations covering any topic and may or may not include slides. The presenter can choose how much of this time to spend on their presentation versus Q&A. Lightning talk proposals can be made in advance of a RIPE Meeting or during the days the meeting takes place. The PC decides which lightning talks to allow on short notice – in some cases on the same day the lightning talk is proposed. As majority of the lightning talk slots will be scheduled on Monday and Tuesday of the meeting next week, we encourage you to submit your proposals within this week. RIPE NCC Engagement with the EU

Reminder: NRO NC Call for Nominations - RIPE NCC Service Region

Dear colleagues, There is a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The three-year term of Hans Petter Holen ends on 31 December 2013. The election to the NRO NC seat will take place during the Plenary at the RIPE 67 Meeting to be held in Athens from 14-18 October 2013. All members of the Internet community who are present at that Plenary may vote in the election. The deadline for nominations is 18 September 2013. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. Please send your nominations to <nominations(a)ripe.net> by 23:00 UTC on 18 September 2013. All confirmed nominations will be listed on the RIPE NCC website by 20 September 2013. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. Results of the RIPE NCC Survey 2013 Now Available

Dear colleagues, The Oxford Internet Institute (OII) report on the results of the RIPE NCC Survey 2013 is now published. The full report as well as the raw data containing all statistics and responses to open questions are available at: https://www.ripe.net/survey2013 The results of the survey will help us to improve our services and shape our strategy for the years ahead. In the short term, the results will be used to develop the RIPE NCC Draft Activity Plan and Budget 2014, which will be published for the RIPE NCC membership in the next week. This survey was launched at the RIPE 66 Meeting and conducted by the OII to ensure independent analysis and anonymity for respondents. Over 3,000 people responded to the survey, including from 75 of the 76 countries in our service region. This means the 2013 survey received by far the biggest number of responses to any RIPE NCC survey. The survey was open to RIPE NCC members as well as other interested parties from our service region and beyond. I would like to thank all who participated for their feedback in what is a very important project for the RIPE NCC. We hope you will take the time to read the survey results. Although the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people to meet and network with others in their field. RIPE 67 will take place from 14-18 October 2013 in Athens, Greece. The RIPE Programme Committee (PC) is now seeking content proposals from the RIPE community for the plenary session presentations, BoFs (Birds of a Feather sessions), panels, workshops, tutorials and lightning talks at RIPE 67. The PC is looking for presentations covering topics of network engineering and operations, including but not limited to: • IPv6 deployment • Managing IPv4 scarcity in operations • Commercial transactions of IPv4 addresses • Data centre technologies • Network and DNS operations • Internet governance and regulatory practices • Network and routing security • Content delivery • Internet peering and mobile data exchange Submissions RIPE Meeting attendees are quite sensitive to keeping presentations non-commercial, and product marketing talks are strongly discouraged. Repeated audience feedback shows that the most successful talks focus on operational experience, research results, or case studies. For example, presenters wishing to describe a commercial solution should focus on the underlying technology and not attempt a product demonstration. The RIPE PC accepts proposals for different presentation formats, including plenary session presentations, tutorials, workshops, BoFs (Birds of a Feather sessions) and lightning talks. See the full descriptions of these formats at https://ripe67.ripe.net/programme/i-want-to-present/presentation-formats/ Presenters who are proposing a panel or BoF are encouraged to include speakers from several (perhaps even competing) companies and/or a neutral facilitator. In addition to presentations selected in advance for the plenary, the RIPE PC also offers several time slots for “lightning talks”, which are selected immediately before or during the conference. The following general requirements apply: • Proposals for plenary session presentations, BoFs, panels, workshops and tutorials must be submitted for full consideration no later than 4 August 2013, using the meeting submission system (https://ripe67.ripe.net/submit-topic/). Proposals submitted after this date will be considered on a space-available basis. • Lightning talks should also be submitted using the meeting submission system (https://ripe67.ripe.net/submit-topic/) and can be submitted just days before the RIPE Meeting starts or even during the meeting week. The allocation of lightning talk slots will be announced in short notice – in some cases on the same day but often one day prior to the relevant session. • Presenters should indicate how much time they will require. See more information on time slot allocations per presentation format (https://ripe67.ripe.net/programme/i-want-to-present/presentation-formats/) • Proposals for talks will only be considered by the PC if they contain at least draft presentation slides (slides may be updated later on). For panels, proposals must contain a clear description, as well as the names of invited panelists, presenters and moderators. • Due to potential technical issues, it is expected that most, if not all, presenters/panelists will be physically present at the RIPE Meeting. NANOG Community, I hope everyone enjoyed New Orleans as much as I did! It's truly one of my favorite cities in the world. Fresh off a great meeting, we're already starting to get ready for NANOG 59 in Phoenix. If you have a topic you'd like to speak about, the program committee would love to consider it. After considering feedback from members, speakers, ARIN, and sponsors we have decided to make a small tweak to the program timing at NANOG 59. We will continue with the Monday-Wednesday format, however we will move the ARIN Track and Tutorials to Tuesday morning, highlighting their importance to the program. The program will begin on Monday morning at 10:00AM followed by our popular Newcomers Lunch.
