Dear Friends and Colleagues, The RIPE Programme Committee is responsible for recruiting and selecting presentations for the RIPE Meeting Plenary sessions. As the term of two RIPE PC members end, we are looking for new members in Autumn 2019 who will be elected by the RIPE community at RIPE 79 in Rotterdam. There are currently two seats up for election to the RIPE PC. Please send nominations, with a biography, statement of interest and photograph, to pc(a)ripe.net. The Charter of the RIPE Programme Committee ( https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-pc-charter) provides more information about the composition and roles of the RIPE PC. Nominations for the RIPE 79 PC elections can be sent in from today until Tuesday October 15th, 15:30 CEST. We will announce the PC elections at the RIPE meeting opening sessions, but interested parties can nominate themselves from now. We will close candidate nominations on Tuesday at 15:30 CEST (UTC+2), and publish the biographies on the RIPE Meeting web site. Candidates (or their stand-ins) can present themselves at the start of the Tuesday 16:00 CEST session. The RIPE PC online voting system will be open from Tuesday October 15th, 16:00 CEST until Thursday October 17th, 17:30 CEST, for the community members to cast their votes. The total voting numbers may be public. Update: Approaching IPv4 Run-out

Dear colleagues, We would like to give you an update on IPv4 run-out. Today we allocated the last of our contiguous /22 IPv4 address blocks. We still have approximately one million addresses available, in the form of /23s and /24s, and we will continue making /22-equivalent allocations made up of these smaller blocks. Once we can no longer allocate the equivalent of a /22, we will announce that we have reached run-out. We expect this to occur in November 2019. Following our last update in August, we received a very high number of new LIR applications. We have now reached a point where the number of LIRs waiting to be activated is larger than the number of /22-equivalents remaining. This means that some of these LIRs will only be eligible to request a /24 via the waiting list by the time they are activated. We alerted these applicants to this possibility during the application process. Due to the number of new LIR applications still to be processed, we estimate that it could be around eight weeks before we get to an application that is submitted today. To ensure fairness, we are processing all LIR applications (and IPv4 requests) in the order they were received. It is important to note that the delay is only with LIR applications - not IPv4 requests. Existing members can still request their final /22 allocations, provided we still have addresses available. ASO AC Teleconferences Open for Observers In line with the ASO Review 2017 "Recommendation #15: ASO AC meetings should be open to the public, except for discussions regarding the selection of individuals for ICANN roles", starting on Wednesday October 2nd 2019, all ASO AC teleconferences will be open for observers. However, please note that observers won’t be able to participate during the meeting by speaking or in the chat room. The ASO AC meets monthly by teleconference generally at the first Wednesday of each month. Reminder: NRO NC Call for Nominations

Dear colleagues, There is a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The three-year term of Filiz Yilmaz ends on 31 December 2019. The election to the NRO NC seat will take place during the RIPE 79 Meeting to be held in Rotterdam from 14-18 October 2019. All members of the Internet community who are present at the RIPE Meeting may vote in the election. The deadline for nominations is 20 September 2019. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. Second call for presentations RIPE 79

Dear colleagues, A list of currently accepted RIPE 79 presentations is now published at: https://ripe79.ripe.net/programme/meeting-plan/plenary/ There are still plenary, BoF, tutorial and workshop slots remaining for the final RIPE 79 programme and RIPE Programme Committee will accept new proposals until *8th September 2019*. Please note, that all the submissions we already received and did not explicitly accept or reject are still under consideration for the plenary at RIPE 79. Authors of accepted or rejected presentations have been contacted by the PC via the contact address they provided. Although the meeting is mostly technical, it is also a chance for people to meet and network with others in their field. *RIPE 79 will take place from 14-18 October in Rotterdam, The Netherlands* The RIPE Programme Committee (PC) is now seeking content proposals from the RIPE community for the plenary sessions, BoFs (Birds of a Feather sessions), panels, workshops, tutorials and lightning talks at RIPE 79. See the full descriptions of the different presentation formats: https://ripe79.ripe.net/submit-topic/presentation-forma ts/ Proposals for plenary sessions, BoFs, panels, workshops and tutorials must be submitted for full consideration no later than *16 August 2019*. Proposals submitted after this date will be considered depending on the slots still available in the programme. The PC is looking for presentations covering the topics of network engineering and operations, including but not limited to: - IPv6 deployment - Managing IPv4 scarcity - Data centre technologies - Network and DNS operations - Internet governance and regulatory practices - Network and routing security - Content delivery - Internet peering and mobile data exchange - Connected Things (aka. Internet of Things - IoT) _____________________________________________________ Speakers _____________________________________________________ Presenters, RIPE Working Group Chairs and the RIPE Programme Committee are required to cover their own costs to attend a RIPE Meeting (meeting ticket, travel and accommodation). These requests are dealt with on a case-by-case basis via pc at ripe.net. _____________________________________________________ Submissions _____________________________________________________ Presenters should be clear on whether they wish to submit a presentation for a plenary or working group (WG) session. At present, most working groups will solicit policy proposals, discussion points or other content directly via their mailing lists. If you’re not sure what kind of session you should be presenting at, please visit: https://ripe79.ripe.net/plenary-or-wg/ RIPE Meeting attendees are quite sensitive to keeping presentations non- commercial, and product marketing talks are strongly discouraged. Repeated audience feedback shows that the most successful talks focus on operational experience, research results, or case studies. For example, presenters wishing to describe a commercial solution should focus on the underlying technology and should not attempt a product demonstration. Presenters should indicate how much time they will require. In general, the time allocated for the different presentation formats is as follows: - Plenary presentations: 20-25 minutes presentation with 5-10 minutes discussion - Tutorials: up to two hours (Monday morning) - Workshops: one hour (during evening sessions) to two hours (Monday morning) - BoFs: approximately one hour (during evening sessions) - Lightning talks: 10 minutes in total for both the presentation and any discussion The following general requirements apply: - Proposals must be submitted using the meeting submission system, https://ripe79.ripe.net/submit-topic/ - Lightning talks should also be submitted using the meeting submission system (https://ripe79.ripe.net/submit-topic/) and can be submitted any time up to and including the meeting week. The allocation of lightning talks will be announced on short notice, in some cases on the same day but often one day prior to the time slot allocated. - Presenters who propose a panel or BoF are encouraged to include speakers from several (perhaps even competing) companies and/or a neutral facilitator. - All presentation proposals will only be considered by the PC if they contain at least draft presentation slides (slides may be updated later on).
