Re: [ripe-list] [ncc-announce] [news] Using Third Parties to Automate Our Due Diligence
by Erik Bais 21 Sep '21

Hi Felipe, Thank you for the announcement. ( I cc: the RIPE list, as that will allow all RIPE community members to read the question and your reply. ) Could you provide insight in where those companies are located, which legal jurisdiction is used for the agreement with them and where the data is going to be stored that is send to them of the involved companies ? I assume that most of the parties involved the RIPE NCC are dealing with a Dutch entity .. but is that the case and is Dutch law applicable for the agreement between the RIPE NCC and them ? Especially as we are dealing with checking ID's .. the location where those are going to end-up .. is something that some of us might want to have that kind of info. Kind regards Erik Bais On 16/09/2021, 14:16, "ncc-announce on behalf of Felipe Victolla Silveira" <ncc-announce-bounces(a)ripe.net on behalf of fvictolla(a)ripe.net> wrote: Dear colleagues, We will soon begin working with third parties to fulfil our mandatory due diligence requirements in two key areas: sanctions screening and the validation of identification documents. To keep you informed, we have published an article on RIPE Labs that explains the relevant processes in more detail: https://labs.ripe.net/author/felipe_victolla_silveira/using-third-parties-t… You can find a summary of the key points below. -- Sanctions screening We need to perform sanctions checks whenever we receive a request to transfer, allocate or assign resources, or to open a new membership/LIR (this also includes End User requests). We need to check the company making the request, its director, the people on its board, and also any other companies or individuals with a share in that company. This adds up to a lot of checks requiring specialised skills and data, further complicated by the administrative and legal differences across our service region. Working with Altares Dun and Bradstreet and also Dow Jones, we will soon start to run automated checks against their databases to verify company information and to check if individuals, companies or any of their signatories are subject to sanctions. We will use the database run by Altares Dun and Bradstreet to quickly verify information about companies and individuals. Dow Jones maintains a list of all sanctioned entities around the world and we plan to run automated checks against this list. This collaboration will allow us to carry out our mandatory due diligence checks in a structured, complete and efficient way. For the vast majority of members, we expect that these checks will basically run in the background and not have any visible impact. We will only need to contact you if there is missing information in Altares Dun and Bradstreet’s database. In this case, we would let you know that they would like to contact you. This is voluntary, and there is no requirement to accept their call. -- Validation of identification documents Validating identification documents is a manual process that we want to automate. Until now, we have worked with fraud specialists to manually authenticate IDs that appear suspicious. We want to apply a uniform approach that verifies all ID information across the board. We will be working with iDenfy, a specialised provider in automated ID validation and remote identification services, to ensure a high standard of diligence and security across all ID documents that we process. Once this is ready, members will upload personal identification documents directly to the iDenfy system using a secure link that we send. In addition to maintaining a high level of security, iDenfy will ensure that this data is deleted within 14 days of being submitted. In line with GDPR, we remain the ‘data controller’. Work is currently underway to integrate our external request processes with iDenfy’s systems and we plan for this to go live on 23 September. Kind regards, Felipe Victolla Silveira Chief Operations Officer RIPE NCC

Confidentiality, or that lack thereof
by Ronald F. Guilmette 27 Aug '21

27 Aug '21

Some long time ago, somebody (I can't remember who anymore) told me that "business information" given by a member to any RIR... which presumably included RIPE... was considered to be "confidential" and would not thereafter be shared by the RIR staff with any other or outside party. Now I am trying to figure out (a) if that is true and (b) if so, why it is true and (c) what the limits may be of that rather sweeping generalization, if any. At the moment, I am specifically and only interested in the answers to these three question with respect to RIPE. I hope that you will all forgive me for my apparent inability to find answers to these questions on my own. I have googled around a little bit, searching for such things as "RIPE" and "NDA" or "RIPE" and "disclosure" and I'm still not finding anything that jumps out at me as providing answers. I'm sure that it is my fault that I'm not able to find answers to these basic questions on my own, but I hope you all will bear with me anyway. In particular, I am looking at the current RIPE RSA, and I'm not finding anything in that that addresses confidentiality in any way: https://www.ripe.net/publications/docs/ripe-673 Did I just miss it? Is RIPE contractually committed to some specific sort of confidentialty with respect to materials received from members, or from prospective members? If so, where is that committment documented? I'm intested in this topic of confidentiality *in general*, but I have a special and particular interest in the contractual confidentiality commitments, if any, undertaken by RIPE with respect to bullet point #2 in Section 2.2 of the RSA: * A recent extract from the Commercial Trade Register or equivalent document proving the registration of the Member with the national authorities. Is RIPE obligated by either contract or policy to confidentiality with repsect to the mere corporate registrations of its members or prospective members? If so, by what rule? And where is that rule codified? Regards, rfg

2022 IGF MAG Nominations Open
by Chris Buckridge 26 Aug '21

26 Aug '21

Dear colleagues, The UN Secretary General has put out a call for nominations to join Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), the IGF’s guiding body. As in previous years, individuals can put their names forward directly to the UN, or can nominate themselves (or someone else) via the Internet Technical Collaboration Group (ITCG), which has made recommendations to the UN for technical community MAG nominees in past years. The open call from the ITCG is pasted below and has more details, but please feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions regarding the role. Best regards, Chris Buckridge RIPE NCC > —— > > ITCG Call for Nominations: 2022 MAG Renewal > > The Internet Technical Collaboration Group (ITCG) is launching a process to identify individuals who may serve as members of the 2022 Internet Governance Forum (IGF) Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG), on behalf of the Internet technical community. The ITCG will endorse qualified candidates for a one-year position on the MAG (renewable up to a maximum of three years), to be taken up at the invitation of the United Nations Secretary-General. > > The MAG advises the U.N. Secretary General on the programme and schedule of the Internet Governance Forum meetings. It comprises approximately 40 Members from governments, the private sector, civil society, and technical communities. MAG members are expected to attend two to three MAG meetings in Geneva, ‎Switzerland, in addition to the annual IGF meeting. They should participate actively in the ‎preparatory process throughout the year, through engagement in the online multilateral ‎dialogue among MAG members. Please note that candidates should be able to fund their travel to these events–some MAG members may be eligible to receive some funding support from the UN. It is expected that in this year’s renewal there will be approximately five seats to be filled by stakeholders from the Internet technical community. > > Individuals may apply directly to the United Nations for a seat on the MAG; however, each stakeholder group (such as the private sector and civil society) has established its own processes to recommend well-qualified candidates that can represent its interests and concerns. The ITCG has historically played such a role for the global technical community stakeholder group, and seeks to recommend candidates with strong links to the technical community. More information about the ITCG and its set of standards is available here: > https://www.internetcollaboration.org > > Individuals interested in being suggested by the Nominating Committee are invited to use the online form to submit a nomination: https://www.internetcollaboration.org/2022-igf-mag-nomination-form/ > > You may also download the Nomination Form and return it, along with a biography or CV, to information(a)internetcollaboration.org by 00:00 UTC on 5 September 2021: > > It is possible to nominate another person for consideration, as long as the person is aware that you have out forward their name. Preferred formats for document submissions are .pdf and .txt. > > The ITCG IGF MAG 2022 Nominating Committee will transmit the names of selected nominees to the United Nations by 10 September 2021. > > ——
