A new version of the RIPE whois client for Unix systems is now available in ftp.ripe.net:tools/ripe-whois.tar.Z. It supports several new options of the RIPE whois server. >From the manual page: ----------------------------------------------------------------- -r This option is only available for the RIPE whois server. suppress recursive lookup of related entries. Normally the RIPE whois server will automatically look up contact persons associated with an object. Specify this flag if you do not want this behavior. Only objects matching the iden- tifier will be printed. -a This option is only available for the RIPE whois server. This causes the server to include informa- tion from non-RIPE whois databases in the reply. Currently these are the public parts of the US NIC and NSFnet databases. Please note that the RIPE NCC does not maintain these databases. The information is included for for your convenience only. -s source This option is only available for the RIPE whois server. selects a database with the requested ----------------------------------------------------------------- These options can also be used without installing the client by connecting directly to the RIPE whois server at port 43 of host whois.ripe.net and entering the option flags followed by the search key(s). Current RIPE Forms and Procedures Available in Fixed Place

The files with the current RIPE forms and procedures can from now on always be found in a fixed place in the RIPE dcoument store. This makes it possible to refer to the current version of these documents in other documentation. There are two subdirectories in the document store called "forms" and "procedures" respectively. forms: This directory contains the current RIPE NCC application forms. All of these are links to the current RIPE documents also available in ~ftp/ripe/docs/ripe-docs. as-appl - Application for an Autonomous System Number netmum-appl - Application for an IP network number (IP address space) procedures: This directory contains descriptions of RIPE NCC procedures. Symposium on High Speed Networking for Research

SYMPOSIUM ANNOUNCEMENT and CALL for PAPERS RARE (Reseaux Associes pour la Recherche Europeenne) with the support of the CEC (Commission of the European Communities) organizes the third Symposium on High Speed Networking for Research in Europe to take place for one day in Brussels, on February 2, 1994 This Symposium follows on the successful preceding High Speed Symposia organized in 1989 and 1991. The 1994 event will specifically address the international situation, in Europe en indeed worldwide, for data rates of 34 Mbps and above. Participation is invited and contributions are sought from all interested parties: users, suppliers, operators, political bodies. Possible topics for paper submission include but are not limited to the following: * scientific and industrial user needs; * existing and planned 34 Mbps or higher speed telecommunication infrastructure and networking activities, both from the suppliers' and the network operators' points of view; * potential usage of high speed networking by the industry at large; * necessary actions, strategies, policies; economical constraints and possible impact. Contributions (full papers or extended summaries) should be sent to the High Speed Symposium Secretariat before November 21, 1993. All contributions will be reviewed by the Programme Committee and some contributions will be selected for oral presentation and/or publication in the Proceedings. The Proceedings will be published in 'Computer Networks for Research in Europe'. Participation is free of charge; attendance may be limited to about 200 persons.
