Montevideo Statement on the Future of Internet Cooperation, Uruguay, 7 October 2013

Dear colleagues, The leaders of organizations responsible for coordination of the Internet technical infrastructure globally have met in Montevideo, Uruguay, to consider current issues affecting the future of the Internet. The Internet and World Wide Web have brought major benefits in social and economic development worldwide. Both have been built and governed in the public interest through unique mechanisms for global multi-stakeholder Internet cooperation, which have been intrinsic to their success. The leaders discussed the clear need to continually strengthen and evolve these mechanisms, in truly substantial ways, to be able to address emerging issues faced by stakeholders in the Internet. In this sense: - They reinforced the importance of globally coherent Internet operations, and warned against Internet fragmentation at a national level. They expressed strong concern over the undermining of the trust and confidence of Internet users globally due to recent revelations of pervasive monitoring and surveillance. - They identified the need for ongoing effort to address Internet Governance challenges, and agreed to catalyze community-wide efforts towards the evolution of global multi-stakeholder Internet cooperation. - They called for accelerating the globalization of ICANN and IANA functions, towards an environment in which all stakeholders, including all governments, participate on an equal footing. - They also called for the transition to IPv6 to remain a top priority globally. In particular Internet content providers must serve content with both IPv4 and IPv6 services, in order to be fully reachable on the global Internet. Adiel A. Lightning Talks at RIPE 67

Dear Colleagues, As there are just days left to meet in Athens at RIPE 67, please be reminded that RIPE PC is still accepting proposals for Lightning Talk slots, as part of the Plenary program. Lightning talks are short (5-10 minutes) presentations covering any topic and may or may not include slides. The presenter can choose how much of this time to spend on their presentation versus Q&A. Lightning talk proposals can be made in advance of a RIPE Meeting or during the days the meeting takes place. The PC decides which lightning talks to allow on short notice – in some cases on the same day the lightning talk is proposed. As majority of the lightning talk slots will be scheduled on Monday and Tuesday of the meeting next week, we encourage you to submit your proposals within this week. RIPE NCC Engagement with the EU

Reminder: NRO NC Call for Nominations - RIPE NCC Service Region

Dear colleagues, There is a call for nominations from the RIPE NCC service region to fill one vacant seat on the Number Resource Organization (NRO) Number Council (NC). The three-year term of Hans Petter Holen ends on 31 December 2013. The election to the NRO NC seat will take place during the Plenary at the RIPE 67 Meeting to be held in Athens from 14-18 October 2013. All members of the Internet community who are present at that Plenary may vote in the election. The deadline for nominations is 18 September 2013. Any individual residing within the RIPE NCC service region is eligible for nomination, except Regional Internet Registry (RIR) staff members. Self-nominations are permitted. Please send your nominations to <nominations(a)ripe.net> by 23:00 UTC on 18 September 2013. All confirmed nominations will be listed on the RIPE NCC website by 20 September 2013. All nominees may submit a written statement in support of their nomination for publication on the RIPE NCC website. Results of the RIPE NCC Survey 2013 Now Available

Dear colleagues, The Oxford Internet Institute (OII) report on the results of the RIPE NCC Survey 2013 is now published. The full report as well as the raw data containing all statistics and responses to open questions are available at: https://www.ripe.net/survey2013 The results of the survey will help us to improve our services and shape our strategy for the years ahead. In the short term, the results will be used to develop the RIPE NCC Draft Activity Plan and Budget 2014, which will be published for the RIPE NCC membership in the next week. This survey was launched at the RIPE 66 Meeting and conducted by the OII to ensure independent analysis and anonymity for respondents. Over 3,000 people responded to the survey, including from 75 of the 76 countries in our service region. This means the 2013 survey received by far the biggest number of responses to any RIPE NCC survey. The survey was open to RIPE NCC members as well as other interested parties from our service region and beyond. I would like to thank all who participated for their feedback in what is a very important project for the RIPE NCC. We hope you will take the time to read the survey results.
